Why I Ditched My Rooftop RV AC for a 115V Mini Split

The ETL and AHRI Certifications Actually Matter

The diagrams are confusing, and the torque specs for the flare connections are listed in a table that’s easy to miss. The outdoor unit is louder than I’d like at full tilt. It’s not offensive, but sitting outside next to the camper, you’ll hear the compressor hum. The noise is more noticeable at night in quiet campgrounds. If you’re the type who’s bothered by any mechanical noise, this might annoy you.

The included mounting bracket is flimsy. The unit comes with a basic L-bracket that’s fine for a wall mount, but I wouldn’t trust it for a moving vehicle. I ended up building my own bracket out of 1/4-inch steel. Spend the extra 20 bucks on a proper mini split mounting bracket if you’re putting this on a bumper or a trailer frame.

Also, the 16-foot line set is pre-flared, which is convenient, but the flares aren’t perfect. I had one connection leak slightly on the first run and had to tighten it a quarter turn. Not a dealbreaker, but check those connections with soapy water before you button everything up.

The Bottom Line: Is It Worth $360?

Let me put it this way. I’ve spent more money on a single night of hotel stays in places where I couldn’t sleep because of the heat. This unit has paid for itself in comfort, power savings, and reclaimed roof space.
